Arturo Ricci

Arturo Ricci (Florence 1854 -1919) was an Italian Nineteenth century artist who specialised in elegant genre scenes and costume pieces, frequently in a rococo Eighteenth century style. His domestic genre scenes are notably for their ornately decorated interiors. His rendering of costumes, their fine brocades, silks and satins are unmatched in their care and precision. He also painted landscapes.

Ricci was a Florentine and studied under Tito Conti (1842-1924), the Professor at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. Ricci was influenced in his choice of subject matter by his teacher. His figure scenes were often centred around ceremonial occasions such as weddings or banquets. He captures the exchanges of glances and gesture which so eloquently evoke the intimacies of domestic life.
