Jules Worms (1832-1924) was a french genre painter; born in Paris Dec. 16, 1832. He studied under Philippon and Lafosse, and made his debut at the Salon of 1859, his first painting, Dragoon Making Love to a Nurse on a Bench in the Place Royale, auguring his success in the humorous vein. In 1861 he exhibited the painting Arrest for Debt, and thereafter visited various countries, sojourning for some time in Spain, where he made several sketches of the manners and costumes of the people. Worms was awarded medals for his exhibits at the Salons of 1867, 1868, 1869, and 1878, and was in 1876 created a chevalier of the Legion of Honor.
