Rudolph Ernst (Vienna, 1854 - Fontenay-aux-Roses 1932). Orientalist Austrian painter. He joined the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna at the age of 15, continuing his studies in Rome, where he became interested in the representation of Italian landscapes and romantic figures of classical inspiration. Later he settled in Paris, where he came into contact with German artists Ludwig Deutsch and Johan Discart. In Paris, as a first step, he painted scenes of genre works, but from 1885 was tempted by the orientalist painting, an area in which achieved great fame as an artist. In the same year he began an intense journey through the Middle East, and subsequently also visited Morocco, Spain and Turkey. In 1877 he exhibited for first time in the Hall of French Artists in Paris. Until the end of his career continued its successful production of Orientalist works, and came to enjoy great fame in life. His work is represented in several collections, such as the Dahesh Museum of Art in New York, the Tate in London, the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, the Musée des Beaux Arts de Nantes, Österreichische Galerie Belvedere in Vienna and Vienna Academy of Fine Arts.
